“Learning” Something New: Top Takeaways from Erica C.’s L&D Internship

This past summer, Learning & Development intern Erica C. had the opportunity to join our Digital & Experimental Learning team where she focused on creating online learning courses and opportunities for our company. Read on to learn more about Erica’s key takeaways from her internship experience.

How would you describe your internship experience?

It was an unexpected amount of fun! I have been looking forward to the chance to work with Mr. Cooper since I was offered the position last year. It was a huge surprise that it would be a place where meetings would be entertaining, due to the wonderful groups of people that I get to work with.

What skills have you gained from your internship?

While at Mr. Cooper, I had the opportunity to hone my skills in the Articulate Suite, explore the administrative side of various learning management systems, and collaborate with subject matter experts in the creation of online courses. It’s exciting to know that these will be skills that I’ll be able to take with me beyond this internship program.

What advice would you give someone who is interested in an internship at Mr. Cooper?

First, start planning as early as you can. I was researching internship options two years before I needed to complete one for my program. This helped me to figure out what kinds of opportunities were available, when those companies typically opened applications, and what their overall expectations were. Secondly, be honest and open about your experiences, skills, and expectations. Mr. Cooper is big on transparency and on giving people the chance to grow and learn, so if you do not know something, it is okay to admit it! From there, discuss the steps that you will take to learn more about the subject matter.

How would you describe our company culture?

Friendly, welcoming, and inclusive! I am not new to the workforce, and I have worked in many different industries. This is the first time I have worked for a company like Mr. Cooper who puts a huge commitment on putting their people first.
