5 Upgrades To Consider Before You Sell Your House

If you’re planning to sell your house, there might be some home improvements you can make that could add value to your property or, at the least, make it more appealing to buyers. And while there are certain updates and features that just don’t make sense when you’re selling your house, there are also some that make great sense (and cents). Here are five improvements to consider before you sell.

1. Update cabinets
When you have plans to move, it might not make financial sense to replace all of your cabinets, but there are things you can do to give your existing cabinets a bit of a refresh. Simple fixes could include starting with a fresh coat of paint and then replacing hardware. You might be surprised by the difference these two simple updates can make.

2. Replace light fixtures
If you’ve lived in your home for a while, your light fixtures could probably use a little updating—and the good news is that this update is relatively simple and can make a big difference in your home’s appearance. If you don’t have the budget to replace all of the light fixtures in your home, think about starting with fixtures in areas buyers focus on most, such as your kitchen.

3. Replace faucets
Similarly to light fixtures, replacing faucets before you sell your house is a simple way to see a noticeable difference in your kitchen and bathrooms. Even if you’re on a tight budget, you can likely find faucets that give your space a touch of flare.

4. Paint
Before you sell your house, consider adding some fresh paint to your space. Think: interior walls, exterior walls, and the front door. Sticking with a neutral palette will ensure you don’t scare away potential buyers, and it will likely help your home appear to be more “move-in ready.”

5. Improve landscaping
Curb appeal can go a long way in attracting potential buyers. If you plan to sell your home, start thinking about how you can improve the landscaping and help your home make a better first impression on future buyers. Do you have a flower bed that needs to be ripped up and redone? Could your front yard use some new shrubs? Even if you don’t plan to sell your house right away, you might consider planting some perennials so that they are well established when the time comes to list your home.
