“Growing up, I was surrounded by family portraits. The images were fascinating, as even recognizable faces were somehow strangers from a different time. Thrift stores are filled with similar photos from unknown vacations, holiday gatherings and quieter moments. The subjects could be anyone, and in this sense, become placeholders for the beholder. With decades of fashion, youth and allure on display, there is a comforting familiarity that is easily attached to one’s own history. Forgoing faces altogether, this three-dimensional wall of portraits invites viewers to fill in their own stories, places and times.”
